Introduction
You’ll know from the previous post that ÆTERNUM is working on a new song. If you haven’t read that yet, please check it out before having a look at the update below.
But before getting to that, just a reminder that I need your help to make this song happen, so if you’re able to pony-up the dough, your donations of any amount will be tripled by two donors willing to make matching grants, so…
Our second practice
If you listen to the demo tracks embedded in the previous post, you’ll know that we’re still limited to working with a rough sketch of the song. However, it’s enough to practice with and that’s what we’ve been doing.
The first practice revealed that I needed to re-compose the music in parts. The vocalists diligently practiced everything, and we were able to do a second practice two weekends back.
Here’s what the set-up looked like from the vocalists’ perspective…
By the end of our second practice, the vocalists were picking-up the song pretty well, so I grabbed my cell-phone and this handy mic…
… and we were able to do this!
The practice was good as a whole, but what you’re viewing above is only some of the highlights. It’s totally raw — with no corrections or anything — and you can’t resolve the individual voices well with a single mini-mic. Yet it’s coming along pretty good for only the second practice and the first time singing through with the whole track.
Nerd note: To make this clip, I stripped the audio from the original file, dropped it in Abelton with the demo track, mixed it, then dropped that audio back into the video. That’s why it sounds “doubled” at times: it’s the demo track playing behind the mic in the background!
Conclusion
If you think this is sounding cool already, we’d appreciate your financial support. It’s looking like we will record the vocals in late April at a studio near DC, and so far we can at least bless these generous ladies with a fitting honorarium and pay for some of the recording costs, but recording audio and video is going to start eating away at what’s been raised.
I’m looking to raise at least $1000 (matched up to $3000) for getting this song done, so if you know of someone who can help (if not you!), once more…
May the Lord richly bless you during this Lenten season,
Fr. Brian John Zuelke, O.P.
PS: I know, I know, I need to get the instrumental stuff developed more. I’m hoping to get busy on that come April while the vocals are getting settled. Stay tuned!
